For lovers of Jo Calderone, Lady Gaga has some heartbreaking news.

The 38-year-old “Abracadabra” singer revealed what happened to her edgy chain-smoking alter ego from her Born This Way phase during her lie detector test with Vanity Fair, which was published on February 19.

Gaga pauses when asked what happened to “this person” while a photo of Jo Calderone is displayed.

She stated, “Oh, this person is no longer with us,” without initiating the polygraph examination.

In 2011, Gaga made her debut as Jo Calderone. Calderone, who costarred with Gaga in her “Yoü and I” music video, is “supposedly a mechanic from Sicily,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

At the 2011 MTV VMAs, the character made his live debut wearing a black jacket, a white T-shirt, and a tangle of curly dark hair. That night, Calderone gave Britney Spears the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award while performing “Yoü and I” with Queen’s Brian May joining for a guitar solo.

Gaga’s 2011 post on X served as the basis for the music video makeover: “If you don’t love yourself, you will never find what you are looking for in love.” Additionally, she explained to V how Calderone was founded in 2011. “Beginning as an invention of my mind, Jo Calderone was created with [British fashion photographer] Nick Knight as a mischievous experiment,” she said.
