Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter homeward bound to open SNL’s 50th anniversary special
Simon has regularly appeared on the popular television program since 1975, while Carpenter made her debut in May.
For the show’s 50th anniversary, Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon will be making a comeback.
The 25-year-old “Espresso” singer, 83-year-old “You Can Call Me Al” crooner, and honorary Five-Timers Club member opened the event on Sunday, February 16 with an acoustic rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Homeward Bound.”
Simon claimed that he first appeared on the comedy show in 1976 for the second season of Saturday Night Live in order to perform the song with George Harrison. Carpenter joked that neither she nor her parents had been born at that time.
“Well, I’m glad they’ll get the chance to hear it tonight,” Simon responded. “Me too!” Before singing the song from 1966, Carpenter gave his consent.
