Prince Harry may use Taylor Swift’s case in his bid to overturn security decisions

The Duke of Sussex is in a court struggle with the United Kingdom government over the downgrading of his and his family’s security in February 2020.

Prince Harry’s legal team could use Taylor Swift’s example to assist them reverse a legal decision involving the royal’s security.

Swift was escorted by police for her record-breaking sell-out shows at Wembley Stadium in August as part of the Eras Tour. That followed a severe security incident: a terror plot that forced the postponement of three of her Eras Tour performances in Austria.

Harry, 40, is fighting a verdict issued in February that would revoke his and his family’s automatic right to security. The initial choice was made in February 2020, when he and his wife, Meghan Markle, left their positions as working royals.

Harry has been pursuing the matter in court for over four years. He lost an initial ruling in April, but is appealing, and the matter is scheduled to be reviewed in the spring of 2025.

According to a person familiar with the matter, the prince wishes to “ensure the safety of himself and his family while in the U.K. so that his children can know his home country” and operate freely with his charities.

The government’s plan to give Taylor Swift with armed police escorts during her August 2024 Wembley Stadium performances is noteworthy.
