Regarding his stint on the sketch comedy show, the 59-year-old actor remarks, “Whether you are good or not, there isn’t a more exciting 90 minutes you could have.”

SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, a new four-part documentary series that explores the history and legacy of the legendary late-night comedy show Saturday Night Live, features the 59-year-old Iron Man star.

Season 11 of the show, which aired from 1985 to 1986, featured Downey as a cast member. The actor, who was only 20 years old at the time, expressed gratitude for his brief appearance on Saturday Night Live, saying it helped him better understand his performance lane.
“That year taught me a lot about who I wasn’t. But regardless of your skill level, there isn’t a more thrilling ninety minutes you could have,” he stated.

The Oppenheimer actor also said that his good friend Anthony Michael Hall, who was also cast in the 1985–1986 season, helped him land the role on the venerable sketch series.
“I’m going to do SNL,” Michael Hall told me. I’ll get you an audition, and I’m willing to wager that you’ll be on the show as well.” Downey remembered.Hall, who also features in the documentary series, described his own difficult experience working on the comedy giant. At the age of 17, Hall was the youngest cast member ever employed on the show.
