Chris Pine is searching for two dogs that need forever homes. Before they were scheduled to be put to death, he saved hours

The actor and filmmaker is seeking adopters for two of his current foster animals, a 3-year-old Mastiff mix and a 2-year-old Shepherd/Husky cross.

Chris Pine is contributing to the search for two canines’ forever homes.

Just hours before the dogs were set to die last year, the 44-year-old actor and director rescued Max, a 2-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix, and Jack, a 3-year-old Mastiff mix, from being put to death.

Since then, Pine has helped the animals get ready to find new homes by supporting them over several procedures and months of training. He is currently caring both of the dogs, and he is working with The Animal Rescue Mission in Los Angeles to find them adoptive homes.

Pets Global has joined Pine, and as an incentive to adopt the puppies in light of the nation’s declining adoption rates, the company is offering a year’s supply of its premium Zignature dog food. Pine exclusively tells PEOPLE, “These two dogs… they’re still waiting for homes, so if there’s anybody out there that reads this, I have two gorgeous, wonderful loving dogs that need a home.”

It’s just terrible that adoption and shelters in Los Angeles are plagued by such severe problems. The Don’t Worry Darling actor continues, “I’m a big supporter of adoption, especially here, because we need all the dogs off the streets that we can.” The actor is himself a dog dad to two rescues.
