Melissa Rivers knows exactly what Mom Joan would say about the state of politics today
The comedian’s daughter claims that we need Joan Rivers’ sense of humor at this time during the filming of “Dead Funny: An All-Star Tribute to Joan Rivers, Benefitting God’s Love We Deliver.”

Melissa Rivers, the daughter of the late Joan Rivers, argues that if there was ever a moment the world needed a little of her direct observational humor, it’s now.
Melissa tells PEOPLE that she knows exactly what her mother would say about the recent contentious election during the Nov. 8 taping of Dead Funny: An All-Star Tribute to Joan Rivers, Benefitting God’s Love We Deliver, which will feature on NBS in early 2025.

“Oh, stop it,” she used to say. Simply put, stop it. “Get over yourself, everyone!” Melissa laughs and adds that her mother preferred to bring people together rather than drive them apart, and that everyone enjoyed her sense of humor. “She appealed across the aisles and to the far ends as well,” Rivers claims.

“I think that’s one of the things that, as a country, we’re missing right now,” she says. Someone has the ability to say, “Everyone, take a deep breath. We can all still laugh.” We will continue to fool around. Making people laugh, she used to say, was like giving them a small vacation.
