“It was just such a sweet, generous thing to say,” she continued. More than twenty years after landing a part on the popular NBC sitcom Friends, Aisha Tyler is thinking back on her time there.

The 53-year-old actress remembered trying out for the show in 2003 while she was doing acting lessons and stand-up comedy on iHeartRadio’s And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast.

“I had watched every episode of Friends by the time I went in for my audition,” the actress disclosed. which did not inspire confidence in me. It simply confirmed to me that, yes, I am capable of cracking a Friends joke. But will I really be able to do it well?

Looking back, she described reading with David Schwimmer as “lovely” for the role of Charlie Wheeler, Ross’s girlfriend, and said she found it to be “intimidating.”

The Ghost Whisperer alum, who made history by being the first Black person to have a recurring part on the show, stated when she was cast that she was only expected to do four episodes, but she actually shot nine. She remembered how it was a first for her to shoot a complete episode in front of a live audience every Friday.
