Blake Lively says nobody knows’ Ryan Reynolds wrote a scene in It Ends With Us, and the screenwriter weighs in

The film’s writer, Christy Hall, tells PEOPLE about the differences she noticed: “If those flourishes came from Ryan, I think that’s wonderful”

Blake Lively claims husband Ryan Reynolds was involved in some of the dialogue in It Ends With Us, which even the film’s screenwriter was unaware of!

Lively, the film’s star and producer, told E! News at the New York City premiere on August 6 that her husband wrote the iconic rooftop sequence. Nobody knows that except you now.”

The actress, who also appeared in Reynolds’ recent smash Deadpool & Wolverine, which he co-wrote, said, “We help each other.

He works on everything I do, and I work on everything he does. So his triumphs and celebrations are mine. Indeed, Lively appears in Reynolds’ Marvel film as Ladypool.

It Ends With Us is based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, published in 2016. The rooftop scene occurs early in the film,

when Lily Bloom (Lively) meets Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni, also the director), and it involves flirtatious banter.

Christy Hall, the film’s screenwriter, tells PEOPLE that this particular sequence was “probably the trickiest one to tackle” because it is “perfect in the novel.”

“My first attempt at that scene, I really tried to just honor what Colleen wrote, almost word for word,” Hall tells me. “I really, truly tried because I believe she did it best. That scene is tough since it is so long.”
