Examining the settlement one year after Britney Spears paid 2.12 million for dad’s conservatorship legal bills

In April 2024, the pop star and her father reached a settlement in their court battle.

The settlement Britney Spears and her father, Jamie Spears, struck last year over a legal battle over her conservatorship is revealing new information.

Britney’s 13-year conservatorship, which had granted her divorced father Jamie authority over his pop star daughter’s personal and financial matters, was ended by an L.A. County judge in November 2021.

Matthew S. Rosengart, Britney’s previous lawyer at the time, had protested that she should not cover any of her father’s legal bills. According to court filings filed by Rosengart on January 14, 2022, which PEOPLE was able to receive, Jamie was charged with financial malfeasance, surveillance of his daughter, and paying himself more than $6 million during his conservatorship.

On April 25, 2024, the legal dispute between the 43-year-old singer of “Work Bitch” and her 72-year-old father was finally resolved.

In their legal filings in Los Angeles Superior legal last year, the sides did not reveal the terms of the settlement. Nearly a year after the terms of the settlement were decided upon on February 24, 2024, PEOPLE is now the only source to confirm them. According to information obtained by PEOPLE, Britney consented to settle Jamie’s $2.12

million in unpaid legal bills: First, $500,000 was sent to the Saul Ewing firm and deposited into the company’s U.S. Bank account (the contract was signed by the business’s chief counsel, Hal Morris); then, $1.62 million was given to Willkie Farr & Gallagher and deposited into their Citibank account (partner Alex M. Weingarten signed the contract).
