Kate Middleton will make her first appearance since remission at a poignant event as a last-minute guest of Prince William

In honor of Holocaust Memorial Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Princess of Wales will attend a ceremony alongside her husband.

For her first formal appearance since declaring that she is in remission from cancer, Kate Middleton has decided at the last minute to accompany Prince William to a ceremony honoring Holocaust Memorial Day.

The 43-year-old Princess of Wales will attend Monday’s moving service in London, the palace stated on January 27. Princess Kate’s attendance is a noteworthy and surprising addition, even though Prince William, 42, was originally planned to go in observance of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Holocaust Memorial Day pays tribute to the six million Jews who perished during the Holocaust, as well as the millions who perished under Nazi persecution and later genocides. Timed to coincide with the anniversary of the liberation of the greatest Nazi death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the date of January 27 is historic this year.

It will be Princess Kate’s first royal appearance since she declared her cancer to be in “remission” on January 14.

After an unexpected visit to London’s Royal Marsden Hospital that same day, the Princess of Wales revealed in a personal social media post that she had previously received treatment there and was accepting patronage.
