Miley shows her love for her sister by dedicating a song to her

Happy new-music-Miley day to everyone who is celebrating! Cyrus released a special edition of Backyard Sessions exclusively on Disney+ to coincide with the release of her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation.

Cyrus performs and talks about the inspiration for her songs in the 42-minute concert documentary.

“If you’re close to me and listen to this album, it sounds like we’re having a conversation,” Cyrus says in the documentary. “There’s some subtle shading.

There’s some honesty and truth, as well as some wisdom and humor. There’s some weight and depth here. It represents who I am, and I believe that the greatest records I’ve ever made or the greatest songs I’ve ever written do exactly that.

“When I wrote ‘Thousand Miles’ it started as a song that was very different from the one that is on the album,” she says, tearing up. “I wrote it in 2016 or 2017 and it was after one of my really close friends lost her sister to suicide.

I just couldn’t imagine not having my little sister in my life. I wrote this song for her. It was originally called ‘Happy Girl’ and it was, ‘I just wanna see you happy and all I really want is for you to be happy, girl.’”

This song was written specifically for her. It was originally titled “Happy Girl,” and it said, “I just want to see you happy, girl, and all I really want is for you to be happy.”

“It was about happiness and sisterhood,” she continues, “and it just makes me emotional, because now the song is filled with so much joy in the music and it’s become something so far removed from the sadness that inspired the song.”

In the documentary, Cyrus sings the original lyrics to “Happy Girl”: “There was a friend of mine. Darlene’s name was Darlene, but we all called her Becky. I’m not sure why. I could tell she was in pain. But I never expected to wake up to that call. Never, ever.
