Kate ignored him.
Seconds later, another soldier slammed his shoulder into her.
She lost her footing and nearly fell from the helicopter, barely managing to grab the metal safety rail beside the open door.
“What are you doing? I don’t have a parachute!” she shouted.
The helicopter continued flying.
The rushing wind pulled violently at her body, threatening to tear her loose.
Instead of helping, the men burst into laughter.
“Relax,” one of them jeered. “You’ll survive.”
Kate desperately fought to pull herself back inside, but her fingers slowly began slipping.
Then one of the soldiers stepped forward and deliberately kicked her hand.
The impact struck her arm.
Her grip finally gave out.
For a brief instant she hung in midair before plunging toward the lake below, her scream swallowed by the deafening roar of the helicopter’s rotors.
The soldiers looked down and laughed.
One of them even joked that no one would ever report them again.
Certain they had gotten away with everything, they had no idea that their worst nightmare was only beginning.
The fall was devastating.
Kate slammed into the surface of the mountain lake with tremendous force, losing consciousness for several moments.
She suffered multiple injuries, including a dislocated shoulder, several fractures, and severe bruising.

Fishermen on the opposite shore spotted her and immediately contacted emergency services.

As soon as she regained consciousness, Kate described every detail of the attack to military investigators.
Her fellow soldiers denied any responsibility.
