After escaping a shelter fire a scared puppy seeks a compassionate woman to take her home

Jackie Colette knew she would struggle to make a decision when she got to Texas Dogs Alive because there were so many puppies
who needed a forever home. But the woman was unaware that the dog would pick her up. Jacqueline says, “I went to the cages and instantly saw how a little paw reached out to me.”

Volunteers with Austin Pets Alive were startled to see Donut, an eight dog, grab for Jackie.
She lived in the refuge for ten days, but she never spoke to anyone during that time.

“Donut was taken off the street and put in a shelter, but the shelter quickly caught fire. Although the puppy was unharmed in the fire, it
quickly contracted parvo and was transported to the intensive care unit at Austin Pets Alive.

The department was flooded literally a week later, forcing the animals to relocate to expansive cages on the street, according to Jacqueline.
The doughnut was guarded and terrified since, despite her early age, she was capable of enduring numerous horrible situations.

But when the dog spotted Jacqueline, she made the brave decision to approach the woman. It profoundly moved the woman.
She signed papers “adopting” a puppy and brought it home within the same day. Donut immediately had a bath after moving in and then ran around the yard until she was exhausted.
