I am younger in all the ways that matter, according to Jane Fonda, who is 87 years old and doesn’t feel like an old person

In January, Jane Fonda told PEOPLE that she continues to follow her fitness regimen, “just slower” than when she was younger.

Despite being 87 years old, Jane Fonda is not feeling the effects of aging.

In a piece about her new sneaker campaign with Golden Goose, which was published on Tuesday, February 18, Fonda talked to The New York Times about her personal style, exercise habits, and views on aging. “I don’t feel like an elderly individual. After discussing her love for the brand’s sneakers and her daily workouts with a trainer, she remarked, “I’m much younger than I was when I was in my 20s, in all the ways that matter.”

The two-time Oscar winner spoke up to PEOPLE about her exercises, stating, “I essentially do everything I used to do, just slower.” Fonda’s most recent remarks about aging and her fitness regimen come just over a month later.

Fonda added, “I used to be a runner, but now I love walking,” at that time. “I love being outdoors in the woods, especially up and down hills.”

In her interview with PEOPLE, Fonda also reflected on how her exercise videos from the 1980s influenced a generation of women’s fitness habits. She recounted getting letters from women all over the world attesting to the beneficial effects her videos had on their lives.

“I had no idea my videos were going to become such a phenomenon,” remarked Fonda.
