Miles, the 6-year-old son of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are talking candidly about their son’s medical journey. The 38-year-old model revealed that Miles, 6, had just received a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis during a hospital stay for an unrelated condition.

In an Instagram post on July 31, Chrissy stated, “A few weeks ago, our Miles was sick in the hospital with a terrible case of shigella, an intestinal infection caused by bacteria in food or water.”

“Since they attended the same camp, it happens that many of his friends were also ill with it.”

Miles’ medical team found more than just an infection while Chrissy, who also shares Luna, 8, and Esti, 18 months, as well as son Wren, 13 months, with John, was receiving treatment for the sickness.

She went on, “The doctors knew something else was wrong with his blood tests.” “After more testing, we learned he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime of [Type 1 diabetes].” Regarding the future trip, Chrissy stated that they have already begun modifying his regimen.

“We gave him his first insulin shot last night, and now we’re good to go!” she said. “A different, new world for us, and we are undoubtedly picking up a lot of new skills quickly.”
