The CBS Mornings co-host addressed PEOPLE on Tuesday, September 17, at the Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program luncheon. The program assists female filmmakers in honing and presenting their short film concepts to the film industry.
King discussed her most recent Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover, which was revealed in May, at the event.
“Talk about stepping outside of your box,” she replied. “I swear to God that I thought I was getting punked when they called.” Yes, I did. I felt like I was getting punked.”
King continued, saying that while she was “really happy” to be featured in the venerable magazine, she was “thrilled” to learn that she had been selected for a single cover.
The TV personality remarked, “I’ve had so many women come up to me and say, that was so brave.” Was it courageous? All I felt was excitement. For me, that was the case. To let you know that I’m 69 years old and feeling well.”Asking to be included on the 60th anniversary cover was one of King’s “highlights” of her career, she previously told PEOPLE.
“I never thought this would be possible, so it was one of the highlights of everything I’ve done, even though it wasn’t something I dreamed about,” she said.
