Céline Dion attacks Donald Trump for using My Heart Will Go On at a Montana Rally without permission
On August 9, the former president performed Dion’s 1997 hit song from “Titanic” during a rally in Bozeman.
At a Montana campaign rally, Céline Dion’s team is utilizing one of her most well-known songs to criticize Donald Trump.
According to NBC News, event organizers showed a video of Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On,” her 1997 hit song from the Titanic soundtrack, at the Trump and vice presidential running mate J.D. Vance rally at Bozeman on Friday, August 9.
The singer’s crew reacted to the song’s usage in the commercial in a message posted on Saturday, August 10, on Dion’s X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,” the statement continues.
“This usage is not authorized in any manner, and Celine Dion does not support this or any comparable use,” the statement concludes, posing a query to the Trump campaign: “And really, THAT song?”
Trump had earlier asked Dion to perform at his 2017 presidential inauguration, but Dion declined. Musicians have previously objected to Trump’s usage of their compositions.
