Every year on November 1st, the town of Cary, North Carolina, honors Mariah Carey by renaming itself Carey
An additional letter is being sent to a busy town in North Carolina to commemorate its namesake with an annual holiday.

Although Mariah Carey cannot legally claim to be the only “Queen of Christmas,” she can claim that a town has been named after her.
Founded in 1750, Cary is a populated town in North Carolina with a significant history that predates the R&B singer. To celebrate the singer’s legacy, Mayor Harold Weinbrecht chose to embrace the town’s name, which is pronounced the same way as Carey.

In a spin on Carey’s popular song “One Sweet Day,” Weinbrecht announced on local radio Mix 101.5 that the town will be renamed “Carey” on November 1. The town only needs one more letter, after all. A woman may be seen putting an illuminated “E” to the town’s name in an Instagram video. Other photos in the collection show the proud mayor posing with the official proclamation.

“This is incredible! I’m so honored!!” Carey, 55, replied in the town’s Instagram comments. “Can’t wait to be in North Carolina next month!! The temporary annual change is said to honor “the holiday magic that she brings each year,” and it’s a role Carey takes very seriously.
