In her last 2024 Olympic floor event, Simone Biles wins silver

With 11 medals in her career, the American gymnastics great leaves Paris having competed in what may be her last Olympics.

After over ten years as a constant on the Olympic stage, Simone Biles made what may have been her last podium appearance. After making a strong debut in Rio, struggling in Tokyo, and finding redemption in Paris, Biles leaves the 2024 Olympics with eleven medals.

With a score of 14.133, the top American gymnast earned silver in the floor exercise final on Monday. Rebeca Andrade of Brazil won gold with a score of 14.166, however she was disqualified for two landings for going out of bounds.

With an inquiry from Team USA, Biles’s American colleague Jordan Chiles secured the bronze medal with a score of 13.766, improving her initial fifth-place result. When Andrade received the gold during the medal ceremony, Biles and Chiles bowed down in happiness.

Three years ago in Tokyo, Biles—who had won the gold medal in floor exercise at the 2016 Olympics—had to withdraw from the competition in order to attend to her mental health. She had won gold in the vault, all-around, and team final in Paris going into her last event at the 2024 Olympics.

Her 11th career Olympic medal, which she earned in the silver medal in floor, equaled Vera Caslavska of Czechoslovakia for second place among all female gymnasts in Olympic history.
