Production on the eagerly awaited sequel to “Freaky Friday” has officially commenced.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures made the news Monday, adding that the picture will be released in theaters nationally in 2025.An image of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan on the Los Angeles set accompanied the news.
In a suitable touch, the actresses were pictured sitting outside each other’s trailers, emphasizing the film’s popular body-swapping plot.Curtis and Lohan will reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman, the mother and daughter respectively.
Returning cast members include Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.
Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan have joined the cast as newcomers.
The sequel is advertised as having a “multigenerational twist,” with the following synopsis: “Anna now has her own daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter.” As they handle the various problems that come with combining two families, Tess and Anna find that lightning may strike twice.”
Nisha Ganatra is directing the film, with Curtis and Lohan serving as executive producers.
