The NHL player and his brother Matthew Gaudreau were murdered in a cycling accident last Thursday, one day before their sister’s wedding in New Jersey.
Meredith Gaudreau, Johnny Gaudreau’s widow, posted a poignant tribute to her late husband on the couple’s third wedding anniversary, less than a week after his terrible death in a bike crash with his brother Matthew Gaudreau.
“I never post this much, but John deserves it,” Meredith wrote on Wednesday, Sept. 4, accompanying a carousel of images of herself and her late husband from over the years.
“Three years ago today, I became yours forever. One of the happiest days of my life, alongside the night we got engaged and the days we welcomed our babies into the world.
The day I met you, I remember thinking to myself, omg, I’m going to marry him. And every day after that, things only got better.
I love you forever, John, and I am very pleased to be your wife.” Johnny, an NHL star who played 11 seasons for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Calgary Flames, was killed last Thursday night along with his brother Matthew when an alleged drunk driver collided with them while they were riding
bicycles in Oldsmans Township, New Jersey, near their hometown of Salem County. Johnny and Matthew were in town to act as groomsmen in their sister Katie’s wedding, which was scheduled for the following day.
