In response to Queen Bey’s Cowboy Carter album’s lack of nominations for the 58th Annual CMA Awards, Clarkson said she had flirted with country music herself and was informed that her songs wouldn’t be broadcast on radio unless she “quit pop” completely.
The Grammy winner said of Beyoncé’s lack of nominations, “I kind of find it fascinating because I feel like those songs were everywhere.”
Clarkson is not incorrect; Cowboy Carter’s lead single “Texas Hold ‘Em” peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums list. Beyoncé, 43, achieved more top-10 singles off the album with her rendition of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and “II Most Wanted,” which featured Miley Cyrus. Numerous other tracks also charted.
