Prince Harry says his fight against tabloids Is a Central Piece of rift among the royal family
Prince Harry’s ambition to keep newspapers accountable contrasts from the royal family’s attitude, which he claims is a significant contributing factor to their ongoing feud.
The Duke of Sussex, 39, participated in a new interview for ITV’s documentary Tabloids on Trial, which premieres on Thursday, July 25. In a preview released a day before the show, Harry discussed his reasons for publicly pursuing lawsuits against publications over allegations of phone hacking
and other illegal acts, in contrast to his brother, Prince William, who reportedly quietly received a “very large sum of money” in a settlement from News Group Newspapers (NGN) in 2020 as part of a purported “secret agreement” with the royals.
In the video, ITV’s Rebecca Barry asks Prince Harry, “To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed the relationship with your family?”
“I think that’s certainly a central piece,” the Duke of Sussex said. “That’s a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press.”
“I’ve made it quite obvious that this is something that must be done. “It would be nice if we did it as a family,” he added. “I believe that, again, from a service aspect and when you’re in a public capacity, that these are the things that we should be doing for the better
