After missing the Emmys, Dick Van Dyke, 98, cancels his appearance at a fan convention
The statement was made just a few days after the renowned actor failed to show up for his scheduled presentation at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
After missing the 2024 Emmy Awards, where he was supposed to host, Dick Van Dyke canceled a scheduled public appearance in Utah.
On Saturday, September 21, the FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention declared via a statement on Facebook and X that the 98-year-old iconic actor would not be attending the event.
The dates of the convention are Thursday, September 26, through Saturday, September 28. We regret to inform you that Dick Van Dyke will not be able to attend FanX.
At nearly 99 years old, he says “thank you to everyone who supports him, but at this point in his life, traveling and meeting thousands of people is more than he can handle,” the statement said.
On the convention website, attendees who paid for a picture with the renowned actor, who was present at the conference in 2017,
can request a refund, upgrade, or switch their picture with another guest who will be performing that night.
The agent for Van Dyke has been contacted by PEOPLE seeking comment. Although the renowned artist was not present at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday,
September 15, he was there when Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic, his 2023 birthday special.
